  • MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE TO ENERGY:

Municipal Solid Waste to Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) or Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) to be converted into Energy.

Our technologies can address small to large municipal solid waste to energy needs. 

As a first phase the waste needs to be sorted in a material recovery facility where inerts such as metals, glass and rocks are removed. Thereafter the recyclable materials can be removed and whatever is left over is then shredded, baled and wrapped. This material is called RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) or SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel)

RDF/SRF is a fuel source not only for waste to energy plants but also for cement kilns and is relatively new concept of modern waste management - especially in developing countries. RDF/SRF bales does not leach, are inert and can be stockpiled for years outside. This should be the new alternative to landfills where municipalities can produce RDF/SRF in a very short period, thus moving away from landfill. The fuel bales are now a commodity which can be sold or used for own waste to energy projects. 

Industries having a problem with food waste can now convert the waste onsite into electricity, gas, heat and water. Our smaller 'swallow all' containerised systems are ideal for this application. Space is a common problem and  this solution can fit into small spaces previously used for waste disposal.  We have showed how our customers can achieve payback periods of 3 years and 30% IRR when considering the waste disposal costs and electricity/energy savings only.

Factories producing plastics containers, cardboard packging for the food industry and other can not recycle/reuse all the waste, there will always be a pecentage that must be disposed of at landfills. This can now be a thing of the past. The plant accepts material fractions of less than 20mm, so in some cases we need to install a shredder.

Governments and the medical industry are now accepting and even insisting on greener methods of hazardous waste disposal. With high disposal fees charged by private companies, the need to generate energy becomes obsolete and medical waste gets incinerated which not only consumes energy but is also not friendly to the environment. Our solutions convert the waste into inert, ash, sterile needles/sharps, green energy and clean drinking water.

Condemned meat, offal, stomach contents, hair and skin poses a problem for every abattoir. We have showed that waste from abattoirs with a moisture content as high as 83% can be converted to energy in a green, efficient way..

We offer small batch type plastics to diesel reactors up to large continuous feed plants that can convert a wider range of plastics. Harmful waste types like medical waste and sharps can also be sterilised and deconstructed through the low end pyrolysis systems. Used engine oil can also be used for conversion into diesel.

The waste oil to diesel plant can operate as either a standalone plant, or downstream the pyrolisation plant. This plant has the ability to process most types of waste oil - including crude oil, used engine oil, plastic, RDF and tyre pyrolysis oil. The product is high quality, low sulphur (<500 ppm) diesel, as per South African standards.
